MORNING PRAYER
PSALM 3
O Lord how many are my adversaries,
many rise up against me!
There are many who say of me:
"There is no help for him in God."
But thou, O Lord art my shield, my
glory, the one who lifts up my head.
With a loud voice I cried unto the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy mountain.
I lay down and slept: I rose for the Lord
upholds me.
I shall not fear even thousands of people,
arrayed against me on every side.
Arise O Lord! Save me, my God!
For thou hast struck all my enemies on
the jaw, thou hast broken the teeth
of the wicked.
Salvation is of the Lord: thy blessing
be upon thy people. Amen.
PSALM 19
May the Lord answer thee in the day of trial,
may the name of the God of Jacob protect thee.
May he send thee help from the sanctuary, and
support thee from Sion.
May he be mindful of all thy offerings, and
accept thy blunt offering.
May he grant thee thy heart's desire, and
fulfill all thy plans.
May we rejoice in thy victory, and raise banners
in the name of our God; may the Lord grant
all your requests!
Now I know the Lord has granted victory to his
anointed, that he has answered him from his holy
Heaven with the might of his victorious right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but
we are strong in the name of the Lord, our God.
They have tottered and fallen, but we stand
erect and remain.
O Lord, grant victory to the king, and answer us,
when we call upon thee. Amen.
PSALM 26, i
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense
of my life: whom shall I dread?
When evildoers assail me, to devour me,
my enemies and my foes, they stumble and fall.
Though an army should encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear; though war should rise
against me, even then will I trust.
One thing I ask of the Lord, this do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
To enjoy the graciousness of the lord, and to
behold his temple.
For he will hide me in his tent in the day of
adversity, he will shelter me in the secret
place of his tabernacle, he will set me high
upon a rock.
Even now my head is lifted up above my
enemies round about me,
And I will offer joyful sacrifices in his tabernacle,
I will sing and chant praises to the Lord.
Amen.
PSALM 30, i
To thee, O Lord, I flee for refuge: let me
never be put to shame; in thy justice deliver me!
Incline thy ear to me, make haste to rescue me.
Be to me a rock of refuge, a fortress to save me.
For thou art my rock and my stronghold, and
for thy name's sake thou wilt lead me and guide me.
Thou wilt bring me out of the net which they
have hidden for me, for thou art my refuge.
Into thy hands I commend my spirit: thou wilt
redeem me, O Lord, faithful God.
Thou hatest the worshippers of empty idols;
but I trust in the Lord.
I will be glad and rejoice because of thy kindness,
for thou hast seen my misery, and in my distress
thou hast helped me.
Thou hast not delivered me into the power
of the enemy, but thou hast set my feet in
a spacious place. Amen.
PSALM 6
O Lord, reprove me not in thy anger,
nor chastise me in thy wrath.
Have pity on me, O Lord, for I am weak,
heal me, O Lord, for my very bones are shaken,
And my soul is deeply troubled; but thou,
O Lord, how long...?
Return, o Lord, and save my life, rescue me
for thy mercy's sake.
For in death no one remember thee: who praises
thee in the abode of the dead?
I am worn out with my sighting, night after night
I moisten my bed with weeping, with tears
I drench my couch.
My eye is dim because of grief, has grown old
because of all my enemies.
Depart from me, all you evildoers, for the
Lord has heard my tearful cry.
The Lord has heard my pleading,
The Lord has accepted my prayer.
Let all my foes be brought to shame and utter
confusion; let them turn back back and speedily
be brought to shame. Amen.
PSALM 12
How long, O Lord, wilt thou utterly forget me?
How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
How long shall I harbor sorrow in my soul,
grief in my heart day after day?
How long shall my foe triumph over me?
look on me, answer me, O Lord, my God!
Give light to my eyes, lest I fall asleep in death,
lest my enemy say: "I have vanquished him,"
Let not my enemies rejoice, that I have fallen:
for I have trusted in thy goodness.
Let my heart rejoice because of thy help;
I will sing to the Lord, who has bestowed
good things upon me. Amen.
PSALM 24, i
To thee, I lift up my soul, O Lord, my God.
In thee I trust: let me not be put to shame!
let not my foes triumph over me!
Indeed, no one who hopes in thee shall be
put to shame; they shall be put to shame,
who rashly break faith with thee.
Show me thy ways, O Lord, and teach me
thy paths.
Guide me in thy truth and teach me, for
thou art God my savior: and in thee I
trust always.
Remember, O Lord, thy deeds of mercy and
thy acts of kindness, that are from eternity.
Remember not the sins of my youth and my
offenses; according to thy mercy remember
thou me, for thy goodness's sake,
O Lord. Amen.
Night Prayer
PSALM 4
Answer me, when I call, O my just God,
thou who gavest me relief in my distree;
have pity on me and answer my prayer.
You men, how long will you be heard-hearted?
why do you love vanity and seek after falsehood?
Know that the Lord deals wonderfully his holy one;
the Lord will hear when I call him.
Tremble, and sin not, ponder within your hearts,
upon your beds, and be silent.
Offer fitting sacrifices, and trust in the Lord.
Many say: " who will show us good things?"
Let the light of thy countenance shine upon us,
O Lord!
Thou hast given joy to my heart greater than
when men abound in corn and wine.
As soon as I lie down, I fall asleep in peace,
for thou alone, O Lord, dost make me
dwell in security. Amen.
